The former belonged to the second half of the 8th century A.D . , and was the author of a book on astronomy and mathematical geography which Al-Biruni quotes , and also criticises for the wrong understanding of some concepts of Indian astronomy and incorrect rendering of some Sanskrit words . इनमें से पूर्वोक़्त 8वीं सदी ईसवी के उत्तरार्ध में हुआ था और उसने खगोलशास्त्र तथा गणित-भूगोल पर एक पुस्तक लिखी थी जिसके अल-बिरूनी ने उद्धरण दिए हैं और साथ ही भारतीय खगोलशास्त्र की कतिपय संकल्पनाओं को गलत समझने और संस्कृत के कुछ शब्दों को अशुद्ध रूप में लिप्यंतरित करने के लिए उसकी आलोचना भी की है .
